Ganbaru means to work hard, make an effort and try to do your best. The word is used in everyday coversation very often to encourage others in the imperative form; Ganbare! or Ganbatte ! Also , members of a team say it to each other to arouse enthusiasm when they work on group activities together. If you say Ganbaru ,to yourself , it implies you are going to hang on and try your hardest.
