Mid-summer gift that is called Ochugen is traditional of gift-giving and is observed from early in July through to the 15th (Tokyo area) , from early in August through to the 15th (Osaka and Kyoto area).

The word Chugen means the Buddhist Obon day , which is celebrated in July 15th (Tokyo area )or in Aug 15th (Osaka and Kyoto area )on the lunar calendar. On this day , people traditionally offer various foods to commemorate the spirits of their ancestors.
